No Kirk, I am not well. I've even gone as far as starting my own blog... Oh god... Just what I need something else to keep my mind on fishing. I don't need help! I just need to live on the river!

As to the question Rebecca asked. No, never, have I pumped a fish's stomach. It doesn't matter THAT much to me what that fish has BEEN eating... It matters that he ate MY fly! And now I can't wait until another follows suit.

I don't really have it that bad...at least I keep telling myself that. And no, I've never pumped a fish stomach before–one has to actually catch fish before they can do that.

You've got it bad! If you start to speak in Latin tongue I suggest going to a Bass fishing shop for the cure.
As for me, I delight in finding the bugs once they have dried off their wings and become all grown up. It's the larvae and pupae I don't enjoy sifting around for. Those things are....warning, girl here...gross sometimes.
So I'm wondering El Bug seeker, have you pumped a fishes stomach before?

Pat, for your sake and for that of those near and dear to you, go fishing. At every possible opportunity. As you clearly pointed out, going almost anywhere can become an excuse to wet a line.

Dave, it's clear that you are not well. You need to seek help for your affliction. You've got a FEVER and the only prescription is more cowbell. In the absence of that, I suggest you go fishing!

Kirk,
You've definitely struck a chord there. No minor, but a major chord! You've hit the nail on the head.
Before I took up fly fishing, I knew there were mayflies, but I had no clue that mayflies encompassed such a large family of water borne insects. Knowing very little about their lives and life stages, I was clueless.
As you stated, everything changes... EVERYTHING! I'm driving to the river to my favorite fishing hole, and I hear myself saying. "Hey that water looks good." "Oh! That run is classic!" I bet there's a bunch of fish holding in that pool!" " I need to fish that some time" And other conversations I have with myself (when you fish alone, you're your best, and own, company) go like this. "Well if the water's up to here, I should do this, or if the water is this color I should use that." " I wonder how the river looks, I hope it's not too blown out or dirty." " What other things could I do to hook up more?" Now, that I'm telling on myself, maybe I should add. Most of these are actual audible conversations I have with myself in the car. So, now that I'm a bona fide whack job, and I've outed myself, Kirk, you are 100% accurate in your synopsis. It ALL changes when you take up the fly. Oh look that's a BWO, oooh a PMD, holy cow, an October Caddis! tent caddis... I'm no entomologist, but I can quickly say hey! that's a midge hatch, and it's time to bring out the renegade. OH OH!!! Look at all those caddis flies, and break out the appropriate size caddis. I can't identify them by types yet... (Notice I said "YET"?) but I can get close enough to "match the hatch"
Unfortunately for me, I live way too far from the river to ever see a hatch at my home (@3 miles as the caddis flies). But, I have the internet!
Moral of the story: Life changes when you pick up the fly rod and you begin your journey as a fly angler. I am definitely in that majority. Now, start tying your own flies! Then you can honestly say, your life has gone by way of the mayfly!

Great read, keep em coming!

While I, too, notice bugs more often now, below are examples of a more prominent symptom of my Obsession:

…the daughter asking if I might take her and the grandson camping again. My response: “Sure, I’m thinking of Tuolumne Meadows, but there will be a day or three that I’ll be fly fishing.”

…my son discussing moving to another state. My response: “That’d be cool. There’s good fishing at X stream and I could crash at your apartment.”

…visiting the parents in the Evergreen State means another venue for throwing some line on foreign waters. (In my defense, do visit with them during breakfast and dinner.)

…the Wife talking about wanting to visit British Columbia. My response: “I’d enjoy that. And maybe I could squeeze in a day fishing at least one of the Kamloops lakes.” (Similar responses are ready for many other destinations.)

Seems the only, albeit temporary, cure, is to go fly fishing.

Mrs. UA- What, no smiley face? I may regret this, but I have to ask: Do you have a bug up your butt?
OK, sorry. Strike that. Thanks for taking time out of your busy morning to read and comment.
