Rich, you need to hit the Joe with your rod in one hand and lens in the other. You’d probably develop a case of Photo A.D.D. up there- it’s that beautiful.

Always good to read the adventures of the Unaccomplished angler. Cutts always make me feel like an accomplished angler…Haven’t made the trip there yet and your story is making my mouth water..
I have fished the Lochsa on a few occasions with a box chock full of chernobyls in August & once in October with stimulators and that was all the stimulation both them and I needed… gotta love a fish that makes you feel proficient with a flyrod

Bill, thanks for the good words- much appreciated. I highly recommend the Joe, and it goes without saying I highly recommend the St. Joe Outfitters if you want to do it up right and spoil yourself. There are certainly plenty of cutts to chase, and many very nice specimens at that. Some years the moose are thick, others not so much. Last year we didn’t see a single one, though I was constantly looking over my shoulder ; )

I was introduced to your writings by a fishing friend and I am instantly a fan. I have never had the opportunity to fish the “Joe” but have always wanted to…your story has inspired me. I look forward to taking a pass at those trout, hopefully without the moose encounter. Keep on writing.

Bait and switch- such is the manner of headlines! I’m just glad that (A) the Moose weren’t in rut, and (B) It was just a sporting bull and not a Cow with calf, which would have surely ended poorly for one of us (likely the unaccomplished moose chasee).
