Congrats on washing that skunk off your hands, Dave! Great start to the year. Will definitely keep you in mind for a potential summer visit.

Dave,
Thanks for chiming in...March Browns- WINNER!
BTW, if that calendar is a reflection of your life, then you sir, are living the good life! That, or you're unemployed and married to a rich woman who generously supports your addiction!

Hoping 2010 ends your steelhead skunk and brings you many fish and fishy memories.

Kirk, THIS is a year in the life of a Fly Fisher
January- chasing winter-steelhead on coastal creeks
February- much the same as January
March- What is the significance of March you ask??? Why March Browns, of course!
April- Salmonfly and Stonefly hatches, and the begin of the early early summer run!!!
May- Mother's Day Caddis is in full bloom! Summer run steelhead turning on Spring Chinook showing up!
June - Summer Steelhead coming into full swing.
July- It's hot, rivers are in summer flows, Summer Steelhead going well, and Caddis and PMD hatches going strong
August- Similar to July
Sept- Summer steelhead tailing off some, October Caddis kicking in, and trout fishing is REAL good
October- October Caddis in full swing. Trout fishing is GREAT. Rain returns
November - settling down, tying flies, back to nymph fishing for trout
December - Gearing up for Winter Steelhead action!

Ya know, it's either sad, or you know you've gone to the dogs when you measure the month or season by what fly is hatching.
So for now, I'm still chasing chrome heads on the coastal streams with egg patterns and swung leeches. After being in the land of 10,000 casts the last few weeks (skunk still on me at least for steelhead) It would be nice to get out and catch at least something! Oh whitefish... where art thou, whitefish? Why aren't you in the rivers I'm currently fishing? Oh well, maybe this weekend my awesome luck will change!
Great read as always. Sounds like it was a great year!
As for mine? I picked up fly fishing. I don't think it could have gotten much better.. (with the exception of winning the powerball or some big lotto)
Tight lines this year, and even tighter loops!!!!
Keep your flies in the water (cause that's where the fish are) And keep up the good work!

Happy New Year,

Rebecca, your wisdom makes perfect sense to me. A good friend and long-time duck hunting buddy of mine made the mistake of timing his second daughter's birthday for right around opening weekend in October. There were a lot of years that he caught hell for going hunting with me instead of staying home to celebrate ; ) Thanks for following my incessant ramblings and pushing my books. Cabela's has been a tough nut to crack- I've sent copies of the books to two different folks there and so far: Goose eggs. I appreciate your support!

Both of my daughters have birthdays in March (which is why a certain something is banned forever in June, anyway) so I've explained to my two teen daughters why March is so important. It marks the end of the fishing season until June 1st in our parts. I'm sure they see the wisdom in that.
Looks like a great year and I for one am glad you finally decided to write a blog, the only logical counter action to fishing these days.
By the way, while meandering through the Cabelas Fly Shop, I noticed it was lacking your books. I mentioned it to the fly guys and will continue to push it until that teenie little outdoor chain carries your books.
Just doing my part~
